Making Your Own Podcast

In this article, we will cover the basics of making your own podcast, and after reading this article, you should be ready to give it a try. There are some things that you will need to obtain, before you will be able to make your own podcast. You will need to have your own domain or web space, and a reliable web host that will give you enough space to store all of your media files on.

It really isn’t that difficult to get your own domain, and there are many web hosts on the internet who will be more than happy to have your business. Likewise, you can find many domain registration services online, that will help you register your domain, without charging you an arm and a leg to do it. A few of the more popular domain services are Dotster, Network Solutions, and GoDaddy. You will need to pick a domain that isn’t already in use, and once you have done that, the domain host will register your domain on the Internet. With the information provided by your domain service, other users will be able to find your domain online, which is half the battle. As soon as you have completed this step, you will need to find your web host.

When looking for a web host, you should find one that can offer you sufficient storage space, and the most bandwidth for your money. You have to have storage space, and it will take a considerable amount to hold all those big media files that you will need for your podcast. Many of these files are hard to compress, and have to be stored in their original format. You will need considerable bandwidth, because transferring large files consumes a lot of bandwidth at a fairly quick pace. As soon as your hosting is setup, your web host should provide you with at least two nameservers, which you will use to complete the registration process.

After you have your new domain registered and secured hosting for your domain you are now ready to acquire the software which will allow you to create your podcast. You should begin by looking at different software titles which are available and decide which one meets your needs and has the functionality that you need, By doing a simple online search you will find several titles that are available which will suit your needs and tastes quite nicely.

One very popular such piece of software is called DircasterPhp. It is really simple to use and only needs minor adjustments to the code before you upload it to your site. The information that you will need to add to the software is not personal information, but rather information about your domain and hosting, so you need not worry about that unnecessarily.

Once you have Dircaster installed properly on your domain it will then generate an RSS feed. This RSS feed contains the information about the file available for download. To create your very own podcast, you will now need to create the audio file that you would like to make available as a podcast. You will need to insert the information about each file that you wish to podcast, then upload them to the same folder that contains the Dircaster script. The information you will be providing for each file will contain the creation date, the author of the file and the location of the file. You have now just created your very first podcast, congratulations!
